Collecting data for a self assessment

Your Path:  Rate your premises > Collecting data for a self assessment

This page provides a simple guide to the data you will need to self assess the NABERS ratings of your office.  A more detailed explanation of each item can be found in the Preparing for a NABERS Office rating (358.7 Kb) fact sheet.

NABERS Energy and Water

  • Area of your office premises (m2, preferably to PCA standards)

  • Occupancy (in hours per week)

  • Location (postcode)

  • Number of computers (for office tenants and owner-occupiers)

  • Energy and water use of the premises for last 12 months.

NABERS Waste

  • Number of computers (for office tenants and owner-occupiers)

  • Occupancy (in hours per week)

Note that the area of your office and postcode are mandatory fields in the NABERS calculator, however the information is not used to calculate the Waste rating.

The NABERS Waste for offices - Data Collection Guidance document (108.3 Kb) provides guidance for sub-contractors appointed to collect the required waste audit data (total waste generated, recycling generated and contamination of recyclables) that contributes to the Waste rating.

NABERS Indoor Environment - base buildings

  • Area of your office premises (m2, preferably to PCA standards)

  • Location (postcode)

  • Temperature data & lease conditions specifying the temperature range that will be provided

  • Air speed (m/s)

  • Relative humidity (RH) - only required for mechanical or mixed mode buildings

  • Carbon dioxide levels

  • Carbon monoxide levels

  • Particulate matter (PM10)

  • Airborne microbials - chemical sampling by a NATA accred. laboratory is required.

  • Ambient sound levels.

To calculate a NABERS Indoor Environment self assessment, first enter the readings for each parameter into the NABERS IE self assessment spreadsheet for base buildings (5.0 Mb).  (Select 'Enable Macros' when you open the spreadsheet.)  Then take the results from the 'Step 5 - Your Results' page in the spreadsheet, and enter it into the online NABERS calculator.  The calculator will estimate your NABERS Indoor Environment rating.

For more information refer to the NABERS Indoor Environment for building managers fact sheet.  Note that this information alone is not enough to complete an accredited rating.

The NABERS Indoor Environment for offices – Data Collection Guidance Document (163.2 Kb) provides guidance for sub-contractors appointed to collect the required measurements that contribute to the Indoor Environment rating.
